Christine Wilson
Christine’s
background includes the Fine Arts and the arts and crafts movement.
She has a degree in Art History and Philosophy, and started her
artistic career with an apprenticeship in Stained Glass. She
pursued this art and craft from the age of 21, eventually running
her own studio and working to commission. She also paints in
watercolour and has had numerous exhibitions in Europe.
Her stained glass and paintings can be found in places all over
the UK, Europe, Africa, Japan and the USA. She has painted and
made stained glass commissions for public and private projects,
including Ely Stained Glass Museum, a hospital in Wales, a restaurant
in Tokyo, architectural offices in Manchester, a hotel in Nottingham
and several churches in the UK and abroad. She has exhibited
her work at exhibitions in London and Barcelona and has been
working professionally since 1980.
Christine started her apprenticeship at a stained glass studio
(1976 – 1979). This was followed by three years at another
studio in London where she was a designer and painter. In 1983
Christine opened her own studio in Sussex, England, working to
commission, making paintings and stained glass, and exhibiting
every year at private art galleries and trade shows.
In 1994 Christine and her husband John decided to start travelling
Europe in their yacht ‘Tugra D’Or’, and stayed
in France, Portugal and Spain. They have been in Barcelona since
1999 and have set up a studio in their home. Christine teaches
art, offers courses and private classes, and organises artistic
and cultural events through a variety of organisations including
the International Women’s Club of Barcelona.
She paints from life, never from photos, often working outside.
Her subjects include monuments, churches, landscapes and cityscapes,
and flowers. Her work is characterised by a calmness and tranquility,
and she uses many washes which blend the colours.
The sessions that she offers as part of the English Cultural
